WINTER 2018

I will be in Florida for the months of January and February teaching watercolor classes, taking classes in collage and acrylics, painting in tropical colors, and working on lots of things for next summer’s busy season in Northern Michigan. If you see something you’d like to order here or on my website, you may inquire about it by email (marylou@maryloupeters.com) or by phone (231-818-6365). I will be away from my home studio and able to fill orders when I return in March.

NEW PAINTINGS

Over the last few months I’ve been collecting GERANIUM paintings to take to my framer. I believe twenty paintings might be enough to start the summer season at galleries on Mackinac Island!

Here is my rendering of the most recent addition to the Mackinac State Historic Parks, FORT HOLMES on Mackinac Island.

It takes a lot of work to keep the gardens of Grand Hotel looking as beautiful as they do. I’ve always wanted a little GARDEN CART like the ones they use to haul plants, garden debris, and equipment from one place to another on the grounds of the Grand.

The eight ITALY SKETCHES in this folder were painted during my travels last October. Each sketch in the folder is 3” x 4 ½” and printed on fine vellum heavyweight card stock. You may frame them, display them on a tabletop, or leave them in the folder to look through occasionally. This is a nice gift for a traveler or a  lover of everything Italian.

CURRENT PROJECTS

I am proud to be invited to partner with the non-profit Chattanooga (Tennessee) Area Food Bank for my artwork to be used during the Christmas season. Please go to www.chattfoodbank.org to see the wonderful work they do all year long.

I have been busy preparing for classes that I will be teaching on Sanibel Island, Florida. I like to keep things fresh and change my classes frequently, so I am now developing a brand new class, Nature Sketchbook Journaling, to teach at my home studio and on Mackinac Island in Summer 2018.

EVENTS

While in Florida I will be staying on Sanibel Island, home of many galleries and a beautiful arts center, all of which host one event after another. I’ll be attending as many of these gallery openings, shows, and artist gatherings as I can to “fill my tank” with inspiration for the busy summer painting season. I love attending art events where I speak with other artists and view all kinds of unique and unusual pieces of art. Events of my own will be scheduled this winter—summer demonstrations and classes on Mackinac Island and throughout northern Michigan—so watch future newsletters and my website for updates.

FEED YOUR SOUL/QUOTE OF THE MONTH

What’s feeding my soul lately has been the idea of keeping it fresh. I love to learn new things and incorporate them into my new designs and classes, while at the same time hanging onto elements that have drawn customers to my artwork in years past. I want to keep the idea of freshness alive in my artwork, and one of my virtual friends in a painting group I belong to (alumni from an online class we took together) spoke to this when she said, “Your painting looks simply sunny. It’s a joy for heart and soul to see it.” A heartfelt thanks, Birgit Schulze, who lives in Gera, Germany.

Stay cozy, everyone!
